For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.
Ephesians 2:8

Greenbelt 2013: Life Begins
23 – 26 August 2013, Cheltenham Racecourse,
Good weather blessed this year’s visit to Greenbelt, where Alison camped with three young people, and a few older people went as day visitors. Following last year’s disastrous floods this year’s layout was more restricted, but still the variety was there, so the highlights for some people were their favourite music group, whilst others enjoyed the crafts on display, or the talks. John Bell, as ever, was there, but the variety of subject on offer was truly amazing. Two of us enjoyed an hour with R S Thomas’ poetry, and several talks on justice and peace were very challenging. Naturally Israel/Palestine featured, and, following the Anglican debate on women Bishops, how the church handles sexuality.
The ‘G-Source’ tent which hosts many charities and organisations allied to the church, e.g. mission, ecology, Amnesty, Palestine, children’s education, etc was full of ideas to stretch the mind.
Various kinds of worship were on offer, including Taize, and the Sunday Communion was attended by over 15,000 people where the offertory was over £60.000, of which Greenbelt guaranteed before it was taken that £40,000 would be given to needy causes – good job it didn’t rain. We’re already looking forward to next year.
